A New Blues Marker Tribute
12/19/07
In Friar's Point, Mississippi, a new blues marker has been dedicated to Robert "Nighthawk" McCollum. Born in Helena, Arkansas, in 1909, McCollum began recording in 1937. He soon became known among the blues community as "Nighthawk". He played with Sleepy John Estes, Robert Johnson and Sonny Boy Williamson among many others. "Nighthawk" influenced Muddy Waters, Elmore James and B.B. King. He remained a staple performer and personality among the authentic Delta bluesman.
