I'll never forget the first time I heard the music of Danny Brooks. It was a few years ago, and my friend and staff member Mitch Lopate told me all about this good ol' Southern boy who just happened to be from Canada named Danny Brooks. I spoke with Danny a few times on the phone, and GRITZ did a review of his way cool Soulsville record. I was a fan from that moment on.
I finally got to hear the man play live during the Scott Boyer Benefit concert in Florence, Alabama a few months ago, although, in a bizarre turn of events, i failed to actually meet him face to face. No worries. We will meet soon.
Now Danny has been signed to the Rockin' Camel label, Carl Weaver's indie label that kind of picks up where Capricorn Records left off. Danny joins the roster that includes The Capricorn Rhythm Section, Cowboy, Bonnie Bramlett, Jimmy Hall, Toy Shop and others. It's a great label full of top flight artists.
When Bill Thames offered us this excellent story on Danny, we jumped at the opportunity. We hope you enjoy reading about Brooks, and by all means, check out the man's music. He has buckets full of heart and soul.
Keep it Real. Keep it Southern!
