Satan Is Real: The Louvin Brothers

Night falls early these days. For some reason I dropped the classic Louvin Brothers album Satan Is Real into the player this evening. Originally released in 1959, Satan Is Real contains some of the most sobering compositions within a timeless country-gospel sound ever recorded.

Ira and Charlie Louvin songs such as "Satan Is Real", "There's A Higher Power", "The Christian Life", "The Drunkard's Room" and "The Angels Rejoiced Last Night" exist as some of their finest work. I look back and feel lucky to have interviewed Charlie Louvin. The Louvin Brothers served as a heavy musical influence on Gram Parsons among many others. Satan Is Real, indeed...
