Bruce Robinson directed a film based on Hunter S. Thompson's novel--The Rum Diary--starring Johnny Depp and Austin, Texas, native Amber Heard. Filmed in Puerto Rico during 2009, The Rum Diary is set to hit cinemas on October 28, 2011.
It's a story of journalist Paul Kemp working for a run-down newspaper in Puerto Rico during the late 1950s. This self-destructive love story walks wire where "Your secrets come out to dance and the voodoo works its magic. If the drinking doesn't get you, definitely the women will..."
Thompson wrote The Rum Diary in the early 1960s, but the novel wasn't published until 1998.
