Swampland's Daily Duo of Reviews For 7/28/11: Pokey LaFarge and Pontiak

Posted: Jul 28, 2011

"For West is where we all plan to go some day." - Robert Penn Warren

For Thursday's pair of reviews, we take on the South's connection to the West.  Pokey LaFarge and The South City Three come from St Louis, MO, a city that can be considered South, West, and Midwest at the same time making their album title of Middle Of Everywhere truly appropriate.  LaFarge's old time musical sensibilities fit nicely amongst Southern legends such as Jimmie Rodgers.  The other record is Virginia-based Pontiak's Comecrudos, a powerful soundtrack to the band's trip in part of the West's desert country.
