Don McGlynn's Latest Documentary Rejoice and Shout

Directed by Don McGlynn, Rejoice and Shout documents the 200-year history of gospel music in America. The two-hour film traces fusions of multiple musical styles such as plantation work songs, blues and church hymns that includes performances by seminal gospel artists. The release date for Rejoice and Shout is June 3, 2011.

Influential artists including the Fisk Jubilee Singers, the preacher Thomas A. Dorsey, Rosetta Thorpe, Smokey Robinson, the Golden Gate Quartet, the Blind Boys of Alabama, the Swan Silvertones, Mahalia Jackson, the Staple Singers, Mavis Staples and the Dixie Hummingbirds appear in this "jubilant journey through gospel music history".

Don McGlynn's previous documentary subjects include Art Pepper, Dexter Gordon, Charles Mingus and Howlin Wolf.
