Rock and Roll in the Rocket City Continues with Part 3 by Jane DeNeefe

Posted: Apr 11, 2011

Swampland is celebrating The Year of Alabama Music with a series of articles by Jane DeNeefe about rock & roll music in 1960s Huntsville, Alabama. For our next sound clip from Huntsville's rock & roll past, please click on the song title “Your Big Chance” to hear a sparse yet soulful Muscle Shoals demo recording of Huntsville singer Bill Brandon with an unknown guitar player.

In a new development since part 2, “Rock & Roll Boomtown,” DeNeefe has signed a contract withThe History Press of Charleston, South Carolina for a new book. In Rock and Soul in the Rocket City: Huntsville Musicians Remember the Sixties, DeNeefe will craft theme-based chapters based on personal interviews and correspondence with over fifty musicians who played music in Huntsville in the 1960s. Special chapters will include influences on Huntsville's music scene such as Redstone Arsenal, the Beatles and the “British Invasion,” and Huntsville's roots as a racially segregated city.

Now, here is part 3 of Rock and Roll in the Rocket City---Rocking the Army.
