The Dixie Chicks won big at the Grammy awards on Sunday, taking home awards for  overall album and record of the year, best country album for "Taking the Long Way" and best song for "Not Ready to Make Nice," which they performed

The trio also won Best Country Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal for "Not Ready to Make Nice." The Chicks' producer Rick Rubin won best producer for his work with many artists, including Johnny Cash and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

"Taking the Long Way" was the Chicks first album since the trio received much negativity from country radio stations and fans about negative comments Maines made in London about President Bush on the eve of the Iraq War. The album received excellent reviews, but barely made a dent at country radio.

In winning the album award, Maines said, "To quote the great Simpsons, 'heh heh.' A lot of people just turned their TVs off right now. I'm very sorry about that." fellow band member Emily Robison said, "it's a strange place to be, without a genre, but our core fans (were) true to us...We have no regrets."

Vince Gill won best country vocal performance for "The Reason Why."

"Who Says You Can't Go Home" by Bon Jovi and Sugarland lead singer Jennifer Nettles won best country collaboration with vocals.

Best Country Instrumental Performance went to "Whiskey Before Breakfast" by Bryan Sutton and Doc Watson

" Instrumentals" by Ricky Skaggs And Kentucky Thunder took best bluegrass album.

"Glory Train" by Randy Travis was awarded Best Southern, Country, Or Bluegrass Gospel Album.

"We Shall Overcome - The Seeger Sessions" by Bruce Springsteen was named best traditional folk album, while Bob Dylan's "Modern Times" was best contemporary folk album.

The Johnny Cash biopic "Walk the Line" won best soundtrack.
