Burnside learned to play guitar from his legendary neighbor Mississippi Fred McDowell. Burnside’s extended family (the Sound Machine Band) became quite influential in the hill country along with the musical families of Junior Kimbrough and Jim Dickinson. Burnside recorded his first album for Fat Possum Records in 1992.
