British piano player Ben Waters recorded a tribute album for the Rolling Stones’ original pianist Ian Stewart. The album is called Boogie for Stu, and will be released on March 9. All proceeds from this album will go to the British Heart Foundation. Ian Stewart died of a heart attack in 1985 at the age of 47.
Longtime Stones cohort Glyn Johns produced Boogie for Stu. This report indicates the Rolling Stones gathered for some of the sessions, and recorded Bob Dylan’s “Watching The River Flow”. This tribute should be an interesting collection of songs for one of the world’s greatest “boogie woogie” piano players.
Keith Richards wrote about Stu's death in his book Life: "Stu was the hardest hit I ever had, apart from my son dying. At first you're anesthetized, you go on as if he's still there. And he did remain there, turning up one way or another for a very long time. He still does..."
