GRITZ Movie Reviews: Salt, Dinner For Schmucks

SALT is a pretty darn good action movie, and Angelina Jolie has really turned into the female Jason Statham, except a heck of a lot prettier. But for the life of me I don’t know why she has gotten so skinny. Those curves we all loved are all but gone, and she looks like a running toothpick as she leaps from the roof of one speeding vehicle onto another, fashions a cannon out of fire extinguisher and the leg from meeting room table, and performs stunts that would make Spiderman jealous.

There are some good twists and turns in the pot, and it manages to keep even the old jaded action movie fans guessing up until the very end.

Angie kicks major ass without a single iota of emotion showing on her face. She’s like Black Ops, a Navy Seal and Batman combined. But never assume you know someone just because they say they are who they say they are. I have to give this one four and a half out of five stars.

DINNER FOR SCHMUCKS has some pretty funny scenes, but overall it left me feeling kind of let down. After all, with stars like Steve Carell, Paul Rudd and Zach Galifianakis you kinda expect a five star comedy, right?

It's a remake of director Francis Veber's César award-winning 1998 comedy concerning a renowned publisher (this time its a financial institution president) who encourages his friends to find the most pathetic guests possible for their weekly dinner party.

Sure, there are some laughs, and the “mousterpieces” of art are mind blowing, but this is a comedy that plays it safe. It seems as though they are trying to teach life lessons here and that type of thing just doesn’t fit in with a comedy of this type.

If you are thinking about The Hangover or The 40 Year Old Virgin, forget it. Two and a half stars.
