GRITZ Movie Reviews: Inception Rocks
Posted: Jul 19, 2010INCEPTION is a very complicated film. Leonard DeCaprio stars along with Ellen Page and the beautiful Marion Cotillard in a bizzaro world story of controlling people’s lives by invading their dreams. It’s all about trying to decide what is real and what is dream. A deeply complicated and cerebral film to be sure. It runs a bit long at 2 1/2 hours, and could have easily had the extra 30 trimmed off and tightened up the picture. Still, there is great acting and an interesting story though not for the masses. And if anyone tells you they understood it after one viewing, they are lying. Five Stars.
THE SORCERER’S APPRENTICE is great fun. Pretty cool that it was inspired by the Mickey Mouse segment from the classic animated film Fantasia. Nick Cage does a nice job as do the rest of the cast members. Predictable Disney fare with loads of cool effects. The main thing is I want to say a huge “thank you” to Disney for NOT putting it out in 3-D. Four Stars.
PREDATORS is a sequel to the late 80’s sci fi film staring The Governator. This one finds a bunch of criminals and soldiers brought to a game reserve planet against their will, where they are subsequently killed off one by one by the dreadlocked pincher faced predators. Is a generic thriller with absolutely nothing new and not nearly enough looking into the mythology of the aliens. Two Stars.
DESPICABLE ME is a five star cartoon. The greatest criminal in the world decides to steak the moon. Yeah, I know. But it is hilarious, and when the mean man begins to fall for the little orphan girls, it becomes quite heartwarming. SOUTHERN ROCK WATCH: In the very first scene while a Southern family is visiting the Great Pyramids, we hear Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama.”
THE LAST AIR BENDER is a good one. It seems that in the past few years, the press just slice and dice every film M. Night Shyamalan puts out. Me, I have enjoyed them all. Air Bender is no different. Lots of cool mythology, tai chi, and a fun story. Sure, some of the acting looks like it could be seen on Nicolodian... wait a minute, that’s where it all came from! It’s like Star Wars meets the Kung Fu. This movie should be taken for wa\hat it is, fantasy. Don’t read too much into it, just relax and let it flow. Four Stars.
