Alabama Authors To SIgn Books at Keller Festival in Tuscumbia

As a part of the 32th Annual Helen Keller Festival held this week in Tuscumbia, Alabama, several Alabama authors will be signing their books at Coldwater Books on Main Street. As music and laughter wafts up from Spring Park where most of the festival activities will be held, Alabama writers will be pen in hand at one of the most delightful bookstores in the south. Coldwater Books is like a home away from home.

Writers who will be at Coldwater Books between 1 and 4 pm on Saturday, June 26, include author C. S. Fuqua, designer Natalie " Alabama" Chanin, and poet/novelist Irene Latham.

Fuqua, who is the author of several books and essays, primarily non-fiction, will be signing his book Music Fell on Alabama: The Muscle Shoals Sound that Shook the World as well as well as advance copies of his recent collection of short fiction Trust Walk, due to be released next month.

Natallie Chanin, internationally known designer of clothing and home decor, will be at Coldwater to sign her book Alabama Stitch Book: Projects and Stories Celebrating Hand-Sewing, Quilting and Embroidery for Contemporary Sustainable Style. In this book Chanin whose fashions Vogue magazine called “haute homespun out of the Deep South.” brings to the reader a collection of projects and stories from her clothing and lifestyle company, Alabama Chanin, known for the cutting-edge twist it puts on tried-and-true sewing, quilting, and embroidery techniques, applied mostly by hand to recycled cotton jersey. Chanin has also recently published Alabama Studio Style: More Projects, Recipes, & Stories Celebrating Sustainable Fashion and Living. Chanin also offers workshops both on location and at her studio The Factory in Florence, Alabama.

Joining Fuqua, Chanin, and others will be poet and novelist Irene Latham, author of the recently published historical novel Leaving Gee's Bend. A resident of Birmingham for the past 25 years, Latham has published over 120 poems of various books, journals, and anthologies. This includes a full-length collection, What Came Before, which was named Alabama State Poetry Society's book of the Year and earned a 2008 Independent Publisher's (IPPY) Award. Her novel Leaving Gee's Bend was inspired by the Quilts of Gee's Bend Art Exhibit.

On Saturday, in addition to the book signing, there are concerts in Spring Park and a production of The Miracle Worker at Helen Keller's birthplace at 8 pm. Come early to Tuscumbia and stay late as each evening of the Festival concludes with a light and water display at the lake in Spring Park
