Legendary Producer Passes Away at 81

 

Willie Mitchell--one of Al Green's collaborators and producers--died yesterday at 81. The Mississippi native suffered a heart attack two weeks ago and never fully recovered.

Mitchell became known as the man who created the Hi Records sound and scored many hits on the label. Mitchell produced Al Green's greatest music from 1970-1976; examples include "Tired of Being Alone", "Call Me", "I'm Still In Love with You", "Let's Stay Together" and "Let's Get Married" to name a few.

He also recorded with R & B greats such as Ann Peebles, Otis Clay and O.V. Wright. Until he died, Mitchell operated his own recording studio in Memphis called Royal Recording Studio. He will be missed...
