Big 12 Daily Fever: Gill Makes his Priorities Clear at Kansas

Kansas made huge news in the conference this week with the naming of Turner Gill as head coach. The former Nebraska star recived a 5-year deal worth $10 million to continue the momentum on the field of the Mark Mangino regime, but without the off-the-field issues. Gill was a finalist for the job at his alma mater in 2007, but he now returns to the conference after a successful run at Buffalo that included a MAC Championship in 2008.

We always say that recruiting is the key to competing at the highest level, and Gill is known for his prowess in that area. It will also help that he is a Fort Worth, Texas native, as recruiting the Lone Star State is a huge priority for every Big 12 school. The new fotball boss in Lawrence made his goals very apparent:

“Here are our top priorities,” Gill said. “Recruit, beat Missouri, recruit, win the (Big 12) North, recruit, win the Big 12 — as we all know, in most cases, you win the Big 12, you’re playing for a national championship — then we’re gonna recruit.”

 Well said Coach. Recruiting success will be the deciding factor in Kansas competing for conference titles. And in case you’re wondering, the Jayhawks will travel to Lincoln to battle Nebraska next November 13th, in what should be must-see TV.
