Big 12 Daily Fever: The Heisman is the only Award left for McCoy

Posted: Dec 11, 2009

Colt McCoy will need a new trophy case after a postseason filled with accolades. He set the NCAA record this season for wins by a starting quarterback and led the Texas Longhorns to a 13-0 mark and the BCS Championship Game. Even though his personal statistics were down this year, McCoy has already been presented with the Maxwell Award as the best player in college football, the Davey O'Brien Award as the best quarterback, and the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award (for the second time).

Even though many insiders consider the Maxwell Award more legitmate, most fans and national media (especially those in the Northeast) still see the Heisman Trophy as the big deal of college football. McCoy will try to join fellow 'Horns Earl Campbell and Ricky Williams as winners of the famous trophy. The senior quarterback hopes the voters look past just individual numbers:

"I don't think it's all about stats and numbers and what you put it; I think it's the way you lead your team."

He added: "You never know what's going to happen this weekend. That's up to a bunch of voters I don't even know."
