Big 12 Daily Fever: Texas Adjusts to Underdog Role

Posted: Dec 08, 2009

Texas rolled through most of the conference season before being challenged mightily by the Nebraska defense in the Title Game. Now the Longhorns face a tougher obstacle in matching up with SEC Champion Alabama for the National Championship. The Tide looked much stronger in winning their league on Saturday.

Mack Brown’s crew will draw motivation from headlines in the national media calling the game a potential “mismatch”, although the same article makes an interesting comparison to the Texas-USC Title match the last time the ‘Horns were in Pasadena:

“Didn't we see this show in 2005? USC was all flash, no flaws and primed to roll over a Texas team that cruised through an overmatched conference.

McCoy isn't Mr. Everything Vince Young, but you better believe he has the talent -- and more importantly, the moxie -- to do everything Young did in this game.

Including pulling off an upset.”

Texas will be playing for the pride of the Big 12 as well as themselves when they try to prevent the SEC from winning the National Crown for a fourth straight season.
