Big 12 Daily Fever: League Titles Have Been Scarce for Texas Lately

Posted: Dec 03, 2009

Texas has become a superpower once again during Mack Brown's tenure, winning more games than any other school in the country since 1998.  Ten victories in a season has looks like a minimum benchmark in Austin these days, and a January bowl game is now just an assumption.

However, on the eve of the Big 12 Championship game, the fact remains that Mack Brown has won only one conference title at Texas (2005). That's a sharp contrast from Oklahoma 's Bob Stoops, who has six league crowns in the past 10 years.

We're not trying to stir up any controversy here, just pointing out how much a Big 12 banner would mean to the Longhorns. Brown is obviously doing a quality job and is still bringing in top recruiting classes each season. But with a "coach-in-waiting" already named and a high-expectation fan base, a loss against Nebraska would be fairly painful in a season where Texas has dominated the league.
