Big 12 Daily Fever: North Division Needs a Power Team

Posted: Dec 02, 2009

With much of the media attention on Atlanta and the SEC this week. the Big 12 Championship at Cowboys Stadium is receiving much less national fanfare.

The fan bases across the league felt like the conference was close to catching the SEC in national acclaim last season, but the 2009 season saw thoses hopes fizzle. With Oklahoma struggling and several tough non-conference losses, the Big 12 needed a power team to break through and boost the league's stature. Nothing against Bo Pelini's current club, but there is a big difference between the “old Nebraska” vs. “new Nebraska.”

Texas has won six of the seven meeting with Nebraska since the Big 12 was formed in 1996. Before that, Tom Osborne had the Huskers at the top of the national food chain. We are not trying to pick on the Big Red, but they seem like the logical choice for a power to emerge in the North (at least the way it is current aligned).

The key to getting the same type of press the SEC is seeing this week is to find a solution to the Division inequity in the conference.
