Big 12 Daily Fever: McCoy leads Texas with Heisman-like Performance

Although Texas A&M gave them quite the game, Texas took care of business 49-39 over the Aggies and Colt McCoy vaulted himself to the front of the Heisman race with his Thanksgiving Night performance. The senior signal caller threw for 304 yards and 4 TDs while also running for a career-high 175 yards and another TD. McCoy extended his NCAA record for wins by a starting quarterback and looks like the frontrunner for national awards heading into next week’s Big 12 Title clash with Nebraska.

The 88 points scored by the Longhorns and Aggies were the most ever in this 116-year rivalry. A&M ‘s Jerrod Johnson was practically the equal of McCoy with his 342 passing yards and 4 TDs, while also running for 97 yards. Will Muschamp’s Texas defense had been dominant entering Thursday night, but the Aggies gave the Horns quite the scare with Johnson leading the way. It may benefit Texas to have a tough test before playing Nebraska next Saturday and most likely a BCS Title Game in January.

As for McCoy, nobody is playing better right now and his name should be at the top of the Award list circuit.
