Big 12 Daily Fever: Texas Tech Crushes Oklahoma in Lubbock

Posted: Nov 23, 2009

What a game Mike Leach’s club had against Oklahoma . Texas Tech outgained the Sooners by 239 yards on their way to a convincing 41-13 victory. After getting throttled 65-21 last year in Norman, the Red Raiders had an amazing performance on Senior Day that got them bowl eligible. The win also gave Leach 83 wins, breaking Spike Dykes’ school record for career coaching victories.

For Oklahoma , it was another bad result in a season void of good news. The one thing (besides injuries) that the Sooners had been able to count on this year was their defense, but that changed Saturday in a loss that tied for the second-worst defeat for a Bob Stoops team in a Big 12 conference game. A loss against Oklahoma State would push them to 6-6 on the season, something that seems unfathomable in a year where most experts predicted the Sooners to finish in the Top 5 in the nation.

For Tech fans, it was an encouraging win as the offense and defense both played physical at the line of scrimmage. The Raiders outrushed Oklahoma 161-48, something that shows Leach can adapt his offense according to the opponent. With a win against Baylor this Saturday at Dallas Cowboys Stadium, Tech will reach eight victories and will have the fan base excited that the future is bright in Lubbock.
