Big 12 Daily Fever: OU-Nebraska has lost a little luster

It’s still the battle of the “Big Reds”, but this one doesn’t have quite the significance of past Oklahoma-Nebraska games. The Sooners entered the season with huge expectations, and those were quickly dashed by the injuries of Sam Bradford, Jermaine Gresham and others. The Cornhuskers started the year strongly, but their offense has struggled mightily in recent weeks. Even at 2-2 in league play, Bo Pelini’s team still has a good shot at the North Title, and a win over Oklahoma could propel them towards that goal.

When asked in his weekly press conference about Nebraska becoming a power once again, Bob Stoops chuckled and said "I'd rather they didn't". While Stoops’ sentiment is understandable, the best thing for the conference would be for the Huskers to regain their national prominence. The weakness of the North Division has hurt the league in their quest to be considered among the elite in the country.

While Saturday’s game might not remind anyone of the classic Barry Switzer vs. Tom Osborne battles, it is still an important game for the health of the Big 12.
