SEC Daily Fever: Freshmen SEC Coaches Seeing Success

One of the consistent themes in the conference this season has been the effect of the three new coaches. That continued on Saturday with Tennessee, Auburn, and Mississippi State all winning.

Lane Kiffin’s squad probably made the biggest statement with their 31-13 pounding of #22 South Carolina. The black-clad Vols caused three early fumbles that they converted into three touchdowns. Exactly a year after a listless Tennessee was dismantled 27-6 by the Gamecocks, in a game that was followed by the firing of Phil Fulmer, there is a much different feeling on Rocky Top. The Vols have shown a ton of improvement after struggling through September, and they now look like a program that will compete in the upper echelon of the league very soon.

Auburn had struggled over the last month, and there were questions about Gene Chizik’s team being divided like the ’08 squad. However, the Tigers 33-20 victory over Ole Miss should go a long way in showing that this year’s team is on the same page.

Mississippi State went to Lexington and used their physical running game to take down Kentucky 31-24. Anthony Dixon was a one-man wrecking crew, rushing for 252 yards on 33 carries to lead the Bulldogs to a big road win.

All three victories show that each program is headed in the right direction and that the quality of coaching in the SEC is second to none.
