Big 12 Daily Fever: Bradford-less Oklahoma loses at Miami

It started well enough. The Oklahoma defense got two early interceptions, but Landry Jones and the offense could only turn them into seven points. Miami eventually got their passing game going and were able to take down the injury-depleted Sooners 21-20.

Jones played a fairly average game in place of starter Sam Bradford, but the reality is that the OU offense is not the same without the reigning Heisman winner and All-American tight end Jermaine Gresham. The Sooners should get Bradford back for the Big 12 slate, which now becomes their goal as they will try to repeat as league champ (and play spoiler to the Texas’ national title hopes.)

While many Oklahoma players and fans looked at this season as BCS Title or bust, they need to circle the wagons and realize that repeating as Big 12 champs is still a possibility. Their injuries may have been too much to overcome for their national goals, but winning the league will please the players and fan base much more than they realize right now.

One of the biggest failings of good college football programs is getting caught looking ahead. Florida's last two national titles came after early season losses.

OU is clearly still a fine team who can remain a significant factor in the national discussion as long as they don't lose sight of this fact.
