SEC Daily Fever: Hogs Desperate for Win in Big D vs Texas A&M

Posted: Sep 29, 2009

Can you have a must-win game at the beginning of October against a non-conference opponent?

That’s the feeling around an Arkansas squad that sits at 1-2 on the season, with their only victory over FCS foe Missouri State. As Bobby Petrino’s team prepares to head to the ‘Dallas Palace’ to play former Southwest conference rival Texas A&M, the Hogs want to show that the optimism around the program over the summer was justified.

Beating Texas A&M won’t be easy, as Mike Sherman’s club has been lighting up the scoreboard this season. The Hogs have major issues on defense and will rely on Ryan Mallet and company to score a ton of points to win a Lone Star shootout.

With their next three games (after A&M) being against Auburn, Florida and Mississippi, the Razorbacks’ need for a win over the Aggies looks like a ‘must’ to show they are headed in the right direction.

Although it is too early in Petrino's tenure to press the panic button, Arkansas's early struggles show just how relentless SEC football has become.  It is very easy to be on the wrong side of victory against most of your opponents even if you have a good to decent team.
