It was a fairly solid week for the Big 12 as most of the conference beat up non-BCS opponents.
But the one that got away was the big story in the Lone Star State as Texas Tech lost a 28-20 late and fell to Houston 29-28. Let’s begin by giving Kevin Sumlin’s Cougars credit for beating its second Big 12 South foe, and his club is now inching closer to a Top 10 ranking.
On the other hand, this was a tough loss for Mike Leach’s program as they try to establish themselves as an upper echelon league squad. In a game that was lower scoring than expected, the Red Raiders could only muster seven 2nd half points and consequently could not hold off a last-minute winning TD by Houston’s Case Keenum. As the league tries to show it’s more than the ‘Big 2’, losses by Oklahoma State and Texas Tech to the C-USA Cougars have not helped in that quest.
