Big 12 Daily Fever: Rival Abilene QBs Match Up in Houston vs Texas Tech

Posted: Sep 25, 2009

The talk of Texas this week continues to be the high octane matchup of Texas Tech at Houston.

Second year HC Kevin Sumlin has Houston experiencing a revival leaving some to compare it to their first breakthrough on the national stage over 40 years ago.  Texas Tech, led by HC Mike Leach, has been lighting up scoreboards for years.

Looking beyond the coaches, additional focus will be on two quarterbacks who are very familiar with each other: Case Keenum and Taylor Potts. Both grew up in Abilene and played for rival high schools there.

Houston’s Keenum burst on the scene as a sophomore a year ago with over 5000 passing yards and 44 touchdown throws. Texas Tech’s Potts is the latest, and most physically gifted, Red Raider signal caller to be slinging the ball all over the field.

These two represent the new wave of Lone Star State quarterbacks that are lighting up scoreboards and being recruited by schools all over the nation. Saturday at Robertson Stadium should be quite the treat for a record crowd.
