SPF Daily Rating: Houston Texans Don't Like Being Called "Soft"

Posted: Sep 18, 2009

To say the Houston Texans have been disappointing since entering the NFL as a expansion team in 2002 would be an understatement.  In a way, however, everything about the Texans seems understated, including their presence on the field according to those who have been calling them soft.

In response, the team has taken exception to the idea that they are soft despite never having a winning record (although it's hard to quibble with the soft tag after letting a rookie QB come in and shred their defense on their home field.)

It's hard not to see the Texans as a mess.   Sure, there's a lot to like on paper, but it rarely seems to gel on the field.

Off the field, the team seems to also have trouble keeping its top players happy.  This is hard enough on good teams, but dissension on bad to middling teams can kill you.  Just ask the Bengals how Chad Johnson, er Ochocinco destroyed that franchise over the last two seasons.

The Texans have a lot to prove.  We could say that HC Gary Kubiak is on the hot seat, but he's been on our hot seat for the past two seasons, and he keeps getting a pass.
