Big 12 Daily Fever: Longhorn DB Earl Thomas Looks To Help Revive Defense

In the conference currently known for offense, the team that plays the best defense may be the one that advances to the Title game.

Texas defensive coordinator and future head coach, Will Muschamp, is ready to turn his unit up a notch in 2009, and he has some good news with the fact that sophomore Earl Thomas is starting to look like the Longhorns next great defensive back.

With the recent tradition of Michael Huff, Michael Griffin, Nathan Vasher and Aaron Ross, Texas has had an amazing run in the secondary this decade.

That quality defensive back play was missing for much of last year (remember the end of the Texas Tech loss), and a few big plays in a Big 12 shootout can make the difference between going undefeated and worrying about tiebreakers.

Texas has the bulls eye on their back as they enter the 2009 as the consensus #2 behind Florida.  Having a defense that lives up to these lofty expectations will be key to their season.
