...5th Annual Music Maker Relief Foundation Fishing Tournament Approaching...

Music Maker Relief Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting musicians rooted in southern musical traditions with instrument acquisition, tour support, life maintenance, medical, and emergency relief. Music Maker was formed in 1994 by folklorist and guitarist Tim Duffy. Swampland will interview Duffy in the next several weeks to inform readers of upcoming Music Maker events.

From February 4-10, Music Maker will host their 5th annual fishing tournament held in Costa Rica. Seasoned bluesman Taj Mahal, who met Duffy in 1997, serves on Music Maker's Board of Directors and acts as captain for this singular fishing tournament. In past years, musicians such as Dickey Betts, Jimmy Herring, Derek Trucks, Danny "Mudcat" Dudeck, Cool John Ferguson, Lee Gates, Adolphus Bell, and Lightning Wells have participated in this outdoor outing.

The Southern Fried Flicks Film Festival, open to any filmmaker from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Mississippi, and Tennessee, is now showing Living the Blues -- a film about Music Maker.
