Upcoming news out of Athens, Georgia…on August 18, Widespread Panic’s John Bell will speak to Bruce Burch’s students at The University of Georgia’s Music Business School. Big time education for the students…
On August 22, the Southern Food Folkways Potlikker Film Festival will take place in Athens with featured cooks from local eateries such as Five & Ten, The National, Lake Rabun Hotel, Farm 225, Dexter Weaver from Weaver D’s and Angelish Wilson of Wilson’s Soul Food.
In June, the historic Georgia Theatre burned down. The Athens community has rallied for donations, and on the 22nd there will be a “Percent Night” where all the local restaurants will contribute a percent of their earnings that evening to rebuilding the venerable Theatre. Bigger outings are being organized as we speak that include some heavy performers. Tomorrow night I'll interview Theatre owner Wilmont Greene regarding the latest.
