Point Blank Reunites for Tour and We Can't Wait to See 'Em Live!
Posted: Jan 10, 2007 I’m happy to announce some really exciting news. Southern rock pioneers Point Blank have reunited and will be heading out to Europe soon for a tour. Over the past ten years I have heard from countless Point Blank fans who are eager to see their heroes live again. Well friends, the wait is over.Point Blank was formed in the great state of Texas in the mid-seventies and while they were easily just as talented as their contemporaries, they somehow missed out on the acclaim enjoyed by Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top and Molly Hatchet.
The band was formed by guitarists Rusty Burns and Kim Davis, vocalist John O'Daniel, drummer Buzzy Gruen and bassist Phillip Petty, recording a self-titled debut in 1976, produced by Bill Ham, perhaps best known for working with ZZ Top. Ham also produced their second album, Second Season, released in 1977.
The band brought in keyboard player Steve Hardin and new bassist Bill Randolph for their third album, Airplay, perhaps their most successful record, featuring “Mean to Your Queenie,” “Penthouse Pauper” and “Two Time Loser.” 1980's The Hard Way, a part live, part studio album, saw Karl Berke replacing Hardin on keyboards. That record featured a stunning live version of Deep Purple's "Highway Star."
By the time American Excess was released in 1981, yet another keyboardist, Mike Hamilton, ex-Kenny Loggins had joined the ranks, replacing Berke, and vocalist Bubba Keith, ex- England Dan and John Ford Coley and The James Gang stepped in to replace O'Daniel.
The band's final album, a watered-down commercial affair called On a Roll, was released in 1982, but just didn’t work for them at all and they disbanded soon afterwards.
After reuniting for a benefit concert in 2005, the guys decided it was time for a reunion. After all, Point Blank has always been a “live” band.
So far, the band has only announced European dates for their 2007 reunion but, with any luck at all, we will see a tour stateside as well. We will keep you informed. Stand by.

Oh Man!!!.....I've been waiting years for Rusty and the guys to reunite....nobody could boogie like these Texas rockers in their day....I hope they have a very successful European tour and then do it up big when they come back here to the States.....No question about it...we've been waiting WAYYYY too long for these BAD BEES to come out of their hive!!!!!
