...An Early New Year Update & Insight...

Posted: Jan 09, 2007

...Welcome to the year 2007...

In this new age of technology it seems regional identities become washed away by modernization with a McDonald's, Wal-Mart, or Quik Trip on every street corner across the country. The antiquated division between southern "agriculture" versus northern "industrialization" evaporated decades ago. The past is a vapor. Of course, those stories of wise blood evangelists, red-eyed moonshiners, and street sweeping blues guitarists linger in our hearts because they reflect the human condition back on us in this ruthless, present time. So, we must pay homage to those who, at great odds, emerged from the ashes and preserved something timeless.

This is really the first generation to operate on the cusp of technology with forces like iTunes, MySpace, Amazon and blogs, rendering the internet a vital artery in the world's communications system. So, here we are...

No other site will channel literature, film, sports, music, travel, photography, architecture, food, and news based on "The South" into one nerve center on the world wide web like Swampland. We exist to expose and carry on southern stories, lore, tradition, and historic facts.

Pockets of activity exist behind Swampland's backstage curtain as we speak in preparation for upcoming announcements, touchstone content and various new features on the site. We also intend to highlight the work of our southern farmers who in this day and age are taken for granted. Trying to harness and encapsulate, say, the last 170 years of history into one up-to-the-minute website requires some time, so exercise a little patience, but you won't be disappointed. Swampland should exist as a daily oasis...a mystical supplement...

Drop a line. Stay tuned. Next time I won't be gone so long. Until then...be particular.   - James Calemine
