Happy Earth Day everybody! Buff

SOUTHERN ROCK LIVES IN THE NETHERLANDS

Hallo Michael,
I want to say you something with this mail. And it has to do with all your work you are doing for the music from the South, and for me. I am living in the Netherlands and I have never been in the USA.

The southern music started for me at the end of 1971 (then 14 years old, now 51). I heard Whipping Post on our radio station, and I thought; what the hell is this. I had never heard such intense dynamic music before. It was the Allman Brothers Band. That was the beginning of a now 40 year (and surely more to come) old love for the music from this band and a lot of other bands from the South (MTB- CDB- Wet Willie- Grinderswitch- Cowboy- Lynyrd Skynyrd- Outlaws-etc.) Luckily I have seen these bands here in the Netherlands except Wet Willie and Cowboy). It was not always easy to get the music here, except in the seventies, because then it was pretty hot here. But when the seventies ended and the eighties started, I had difficulties to get to know something about the bands. There was no Internet. But I tried as good as possible to follow everything. It all got better when the Allman Brothers reunited and began to record again. And then came Internet. The bands got their own sites and then I got familiar with Gritz. I took a prescription at the paper version, and then it was taken over by Swampland.

What I am trying to say is that I would like to thank you very much for all the beautiful work you are doing for a lot of people. Now I get to know everything what is going on in the Southern scene. And what a great time I had when you were writing about the Beacon Run, last march. Every morning I was checking the site to get to know everything about the shows. I am also a member of Moogis, so I was able the see the band on my computer. It sounded as the band in the first years. But still I miss Dickey. I saw him last year in Italy and he was great. Man, what a show.

I should have been in New York on the 13th and 14th of march. My brother and I had tickets for these two shows and we had our flight booked. But unfortunately, our mother (86) was taken to hospital in a critical situation and passed away on the 12th of march, the day we should leave to New York. So we had to cancel the flight and the shows. Hopefully we can get there in 2010.

So Michael, I hope that you can do this incredible job for more years to come, because it gives me so much information and pleasure.
