Patterson Hood Prepares for a Solo Venture This Summer

The Drive By Truckers' Patterson Hood just announced the first of many solo shows with his new band The Screwtopians. Hood is preparing a new solo CD-Murdering Oscar. The Screwtopians include The Truckers' pedal steel player John Neff, Truckers drummer Brad Morgan, Athens music wizard David Barbe on bass duties, Scott Danbom on keyboard and fiddles as well as Will Johnson playing the guitar.

Hood and his band will play their first show so far on June 27 at the Athens, Georgia, music festival ATHFEST. Hood will play solo on  May 3 at Madison Square Garden for Pete Seeger's 90th Birthday Tribute. Patterson recently made an official statement concerning this event: ""It is one of the biggest honors of my life to get to be a part of the celebration of Pete Seeger's 90th birthday. Mr. Seeger is one of the most important and influential artists of the last century and his birthday should be considered for a national holiday. Come help us celebrate on May 3rd."

Next month look for my review on Booker T. Jones' (Booker T & The MGs) new solo CD featuring The Truckers as his backing band with special guest Neil Young (look for a review next month also on Neil's new disc as well as Bob Dylan's). In other Athens-related news, tonight I'll speak with Bloodkin's Daniel Hutchens regarding a new album of childrens songs he and Widespread Panic's Todd Nance are spearheading. I'll give everyone the scoop on that in tomorrow's news...
