New Tom Waits Biography On the Way

Mystery And Manners Prepares for Interview with Writer Barney Hoskyns

Writer Barney Hoskyns has written a new Tom Waits biography that I’m waiting on to arrive so I can review it before May when the book hit the streets. The book, Lowside of the Road: A Life of Tom Waits, was reviewed today by the Observer. Mr Hoskyns has already expressed interest in an interview with Swampland’s Mystery And Manners, but I want to read the book before our interview.

Since Waits is an honorary southern artist, I thought my upcoming interview with Hoskyns proves essential. Hoskyns, a seasoned literary professional, has written for publications such as MOJO, Melody Maker, New Musical Express, The Times, The Guardian, The Independent, The Observer, Arena, Harper’s Bazaar, Interview, Spin, Rolling Stone and co-founded the music site Rock’s Back Pages.

Hoskyns’ other books include subjects about country soul, California cocaine cowboys, The Band, Montgomery Clift and two novels—one of which was nominated for a Ralph J. Gleason award. I look forward to interviewing Hoskyns and reading his new biography of one of my favorite artists. Brush up on Hoskyns’ work so you’ll be ready for the Swampland story. Until tomorrow…

A very common use of a strobe light today is in emergency vehicles, especially when the light needs to be fitted in a concealed manner. A police light can be fitted as a hideaway light into the headlight of a vehicle and will be completely invisible till it is activated. flashing lights are also extensively used in off-road car shows where multicolored strobes are used on cars to produce moving lights that can go up and down, to keep beat with the rhythm of the background music.

I am a huge Tom Waits fan, and I am looking forward to your interview with Hoskyns (and, no doubt, your review of the book). I can't wait to read "Lowside of the Road." I used the film "The Fisher King" in my Myth, Ritual, and Culture class for years, and I always pointed out Tom Waits' cameo appearance. :-)
