Wrestling with the Choices for Oscar Winners
Posted: Feb 22, 2009Well, it’s 1:30 a.m., and I have been doing a little writing since the Oscars finally wrapped a little while ago. Man, they ran late. No surprise there.
I was, however, surprised by a few of the winners. I am a little disappointed that my film The Wrestler, one of the best movies of the year, maybe the decade, didn’t win. Marisa Tomei deserved to win, and especially “the comeback kid,” Mickey Rourke, should have won Best Actor. I mean, he won the Golden Globe, and he was interviewed by that Barbara Walters person on her Oscar special, so I thought he had it. Nope. Sean Penn for the movie Milk took it. At least Ben Kingsley and Penn both gave Rourke his much deserved props, but hey, he should have won. But like he told Babs earlier, “It would be nice to win one.... but you can’t eat it, you can’t f**k it, and you can’t take it with you when you leave.” I guess that summed up his honest feelings.
Robert Downey, Jr whispers to Mickey Rourke on the red carpet, "I hope you win brother, and could you introduce me to that Tomei chick?"
The over hyped Slumdog Millionaire won everything, including best picture, and that little Penelope Cruz chick stole the golden idol away from my girl Marisa. Bummer.
The show was better that usual. I was indeed pleased to see the late Heath Ledger win best supporting actor for his tremendous role as The Joker in The Dark Knight. Heck, there were several shout outs to comics, Batman, Iron Man, The Hulk, Hellboy... my kind of movie awards. Not to mention the fact that Wolverine hosted! (Who knew Hugh Jackman was such a pro dancer and singer. He’s my friend on Facebook, I should know these things.)
Disappointed? Of course I am. But the Oscars have never really chosen the movies and actors that are my favorites. I guess if I had my way, the past 30 years would have seen winning movie like White Lightning, Vanishing Point, Raising Arizona, Dazed & Confused, The Faculty, and Superbad.
And now, the award for best vampire killer in a film goes to, Wesley Snipes, for the Blade trilogy. Yeah, I could hang with that.

Everyone need a wholesale pen and all of us hold a wholesale umbrella in case of the bad weather, so they are good tools to promote your new brand. A stress ball is a good tool to release stress.

Yeah Heath was the best in that roll. Mickey should have won also. Wrestler is a great movie.

Wish I had your ability to stay up late. LOL I totally agree with you about Heath Ledger. His Joker was phenomenal. What a bitter-sweet moment at the Oscars. Can't believe such a talent is gone.
