Southern Cities Make Up 50% of Portfolio's "Top 10 Best Markets for Small Business"

Portfolio Magazine released their list of the Best Markets for Small Business.  Here are the cities that made their Top 10:

1.  Raleigh

2.  Charlotte

3.  Seattle

4.  Austin

5.  Boise

6.  Salt Lake City

7.  Orlando

8.  Oklahoma City

9.  Denver

10.  Portland, ME
 

It's pretty amazing to see that half of the Top 10 came from the Swampland Footprint.  The numbers get even better after digging a little deeper.  A look at the entire list of 100 shows that only 49 cities were given a positive "small business vitality score" and 26 of those 49 also lie within the Footprint - more than half.

Even in a bad economy, these signs point to an underlying vitality within our region.  Times may be tough, but small businesses remain the lifeblood of our economy. 

We should all be happy to see that small business have a comfortable home in our backyard.
