Listening to Music, Watching Holiday Movies, Etc.
Posted: Dec 29, 2006 Greetings from the South, where, at least at my house, it is nearly 75 degrees outside. Pretty crazy. Last year at this time we were under the biggest and longest deep freeze in history, so I am indeed grateful for the Spring-like weather as we transition into the next year.Christmas was great here in Buffalo land. I sure hope yours was equally nifty. To be quite honest, the Buffalo has been sticking close to home over the Holidays. But looking at my Day Timer for January, it looks like that is all about to change.
I’ve seen a few good movies over the Holidays. Rocky Balboa was awesome. I still believe that the character Rocky is Sly Stallone’s greatest achievement as a writer and actor. The character has aged, but like he says in the movie, “It’s not how hard you can hit, but how hard you can be hit and still keep moving forward.” It was a good one.
I took my son to see We Are Marshall yesterday. Another good one. Like Benjamin says, there are some sports film cliches there, but the fact that it is a true story prompts one to ease up on the cinematic critiques. Good movie. Very good.
I also saw The Good Shepherd, about the birth of the C.I.A. It starts out very slow, but pretty soon you get caught up in the whole intrigue and cover up thing. Oh, and Angelina Jole is there for all the guys to gawk at. If you say she’s not a babe, I’ll call you a liar.
Music wise, I have been listening to the Marshall Tucker Band Live On Long Island disc. It was Tommy Caldwell’s last show before his fatal Jeep wreck in Spartanburg back in 1980, and one of the hottest MTB shows ever recorded. It’s the band at their peak. Awesome.
I am really digging The Beatles new CD, Love. Sir George Martin created a magical mix-up of Beatles music that is as fresh as the first winter snow.
The Capricorn Rhythm Section Live at 2nd Street Music Hall is extraordinary as well. Since I am writing a review, I will save my comments.
