THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES
Now this is my kind of film. Shot on location in South Carolina, the story takes place just as LBJ signs the civil rights act into law in 1964. But still, it will be years before the integration actually begins to work.
It’s a great story filled with great Southern characters, brought to life by the likes of Queen Latifah, Alicia Bridges, Jennifer Hudson, Dakota Fanning and more. It’s a story of women, family, ties that bind, racism, love, anger, happiness, dreams and of course, bees.
The cinematography gave me goose bumps. So many old South scenes, farm country, backroads and barns, and old Southern houses, including Latifah’s hot pink home.
The writing, the acting and all of the other elements come together to make a grade A film that deserves a fistful of Oscars. Absolutely beautiful. One of the best movies of the year.

ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO
Seth Rogen is the new golden boy of Hollywood comedy, and he has a style all his own. Lot’s of sexual bits and teen/twenties slapstick humor. Once again, he hits a home run in his own genre, with the story of two friends who find themselves drawn into more than friendship while attempting to make an amateur porno film in hopes that they can get out of debt and keep their electricity and water turned on.
Seth is as funny as ever, and his co-star Elizabeth Banks is absolutely adorable. The supporting cast, including one actual former porn star, Traci Lords, are all top notch.
Lots of sexual situations, a bit of full frontal nudity, and some serious sophomore humor is peppered throughout what is, in the end, a tender love story.
