BODY OF LIES

OUR STORY SO FAR: Leonardo DiCaprio is Roger Ferris, the CIA’s finest intelligence man, living moment to moment on the ground in Iraq. Ferris’ very life often depends on the voice at the other end of a secure phone line--CIA veteran Ed Hoffman (a chunked up Russell Crowe). Hoffman is on the trail of an emerging terrorist leader who has orchestrated a campaign of bombings while eluding the most sophisticated intelligence network in the world. When he falls for a beautiful doctor in Jordan, Ferris endangers the program, and is almost killed, until a white knight emerges in the form of an absolute surprise.

SOUTHERN CONNECTOR: The Ferris character is a graduate of The University of North Carolina, and referred to as “a Tarheel” by Crowe in one scene.

BOTTOM LINE: Two outstanding actors in outstanding roles. Crowe is in top form.

MIRACLE AT ST. ANNA

OUR STORY SO FAR: During world war two, a platoon of black Buffalo Soldiers, led by a white Sgt., are at war in Italy. The story involves several of the soldiers who survive an ambush they are sent into by the Sgt., as well as a young boy and the head of a statue that are both keys to the story.

SOUTHERN CONNECTOR: None

BOTTOM LINE: Spike Lee hits a triple. Another dose of reality for the white man. Good acting, good story, if a little scattered, and one super hot Italian chick. Yeah, I said it.

QUARANTINE

OUR STORY SO FAR: An evening news reporter babe is sent out to shadow the fire department on typical evening, but when they respond to an emergency in an apartment building, they are locked up and locked down by the authorities. It seems a deadly toxic disease is running wild in the building. Eek.

SOUTHERN CONNECTOR: None

BOTTOM LINE: Think Cloverfield and The Blair Witch Project, with some Night of the Living Dead tossed in. Natch. I should have asked for a wake up call before going into the theater. oh, and the ending was stupid.
