Athens, Georgia Heroes Continue To Amaze
10/15/08
Yesterday I interviewed Widespread Panic's guitarist Jimmy Herring. Herring has played with Col. Bruce Hampton, Derek Trucks, The Allman Brothers Band, The Dead, Jazz is Dead, and his new solo CD Lifeboat hits the streets on October 21. The interview went well and we covered a lot of ground. Jimmy Herring proves to be a giant among men and our Q & A provides a clear glimpse into the musical journey of one of the best guitar players around.
In other Panic news, the band will play an intimate show in New York at the Irving Plaza for the Bill Graham Memeorial Foundation in November. The foundation was formed in 1991 following the death of legendary promoter Bill Graham.
I look forward to seeing Panic this weekend in Atlanta on the heels of their recent induction into The Georgia Music Hall of Fame. This is a good time to check out the band, and they play many festive gigs like their annual Halloween bash. A Mystery And Manners article and review will soon follow.
Ain't Life Grand,
James Calemine
