GRITZ Movie Reviews: Best Friend's Girl, Burn After Reading, Righteous Kill, Bangkok Dangerous

Dane Cook is a funny guy, and when he teams up with Kate Hudson, it’s pretty damned hilarious. When Dustin (Jason Biggs) falls in love with his friend Alexis (Hudson) only to discover that she is not ready to commit, he hires his buddy Tank (Cook) to ask her out and show her what a truly hideous date is like, so she will come running back into his arms. After all, it’s what Tank does for a living, and he’s darn good at it. The movie gets truly funny when we re introduced to Tanks father, played by Alec Baldwin, who shows us the apple didn’t fall far from the tree.
Kate Hudson is drop dead gorgeous, Dane Cook nd Baldwin re hilarious and Biggs is perfect as the love sick semi-nerd. Honorable mention goes to Lizzy Caplan as Ami, Alexis’ cute but somewhat crazy friend.

BABE WATCH: Like her mother before her, Kate Hudson is cute, funny and sexy. It don't get any better than that.
BURN AFTER READING
The stellar cast on the new Coen brothers film includes George Clooney, Frances McDormand, Brad Pitt , John Malkovich, Tilda Swinton, Richard Jenkins, David Rasche, J K Simmons and others. With all that talent, it would be kind of hard to lose. And with a funny script tossed in, it’s a hit right out of the box. Clooney and Pitt are downright hilarious. Clooney as a womanizing hypochondriac who likes to take a run after sex, and Pitt as a nerdy gym trainer who works alongside McDormand and Jenkins. Of course it is John Malkovich who steals the show as a potty mouthed government intelligence worker in the middle of a divorce and trying to deal with a pair of amateur blackmailers (Pitt and McDormand). All McDormand’s character wants is money to get three small cosmetic surgeries to improve her eyes, boobs and tummy, and she will apparently go to any length to achieve that goal. Honestly, the ol’ Buffalo laughed from one end of this movie to the other. I just plain loved it.

RIGHTEOUS KILL
The second screen pairing of Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro is a good one. As two New York City police detectives, they are quite an imposing team. When a serial murderer starts targeting violent felons who have fallen through the cracks of the judicial system, the dynamic duo are assigned to the case. All of the victims are suspected criminals whose bodies are found accompanied by a poem. The killer enacts his own brand of vigilante justice. The case becomes the biggest one these two cops have handled in their 30 year career as partners, and the plot thickens as all evidence points to on of their own, a cop, as the mystery killer.

BANGKOK DANGEROUS
Nicolas Cage is a hired assassin who has a lucrative career going until he makes two mistakes in one week during a job in Thailand. He takes on an apprentice and he falls in love. Two strikes. The third strike is that the movie is a real stinker. Remember Face Off, with Nick and Travolta. Remember how bad it sucked? I ain’t saying Bangkok is that bad, but it’s pretty darn close. Cage is great in films like Raising Arizona, but as the tough assassin type, it just doesn’t work.
