Back in 2005, I had developed a somewhat passing interest in the American Idol TV show. It was a guilty pleasure to be sure. I blame it on Kelly Clarkson who had won me over in the first season, so I kind of continued to watch here and there.
At the same time the new season was kicking in, I was hanging out in Huntsville, Alabama, recording an album at Mill Kids Sudios. My buddy, the late Ray Brand mentioned that one of Huntsville's own, Bo Bice was to be on the Idol show. Ray said they had known Bo for years, and that he was always coming to their shows and playing his own.
I watched Bo audition with "Whipping Post" and he had me at hello. I followed the entire season as he covered Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker and ripped it up with The Blck Crowes' "Remedy" one night. Eventually, he took second place to country diva Carrie Underwood.
After a few years of riding the post-Idol train, Bo is back with his own studio and a hot new Southern Rock album. We caught up with Bo for a GRITZ exclusive interview this morning. I hope you'll check it out here.
Meanwhile. Keep it Real. Keep it Southern.

Bo is by far the best thing ever to come out of that joke called Idol. He was way too good for that show, but he used it as a major stepping stone, and I applaud that. Great interview Buffalo.
