Street Named After Merle Haggard

In Oildale, California, a small town north of Bakersfield, a road will be named after Merle Haggard. County supervisors voted 4-1 to rename a two-mile stretch (7th Standard Road between North Chester Avenue and Highway 99) to Merle Haggard Drive. Fans plan to raise money to fund the $41,500 to change the street signs. Merle mentioned to www.merlehaggard.com "That's something, isn't it? They been talking about this for a while. I didn't think it would come to pass, but that's wonderful."

A bluegrass Merle Haggard CD is set for release on Del McCroury's label, McCroury Music. Haggard's producer, seasoned bluegrass soundsman Ronnie Reno, brought in Marty Stuart, Carl Jackson, Rob Ickes, Charlie Cushman, Aubrey Haynie, and Ben Issac to play on Haggard's new release.  James Calemine
