GRITZ Movie Reviews; Sex and the City; The Strangers

SEX AND THE CITY
I had no idea just how huge the cult following for this former HBO series was. I mean, even here in Greenville, at the first showing on Friday at noon, I found myself packed into a theater full of 90 percent women, all eager to re-visit Carrie and all of the other women of Sex and The City.

As for me, I had caught the show a total of maybe three times during its original run. I had heard through the grapevine about the on again off again relationship between Carrie the writer and the man known as “Big,” and I knew their relationship was going to figure heavily into the movie’s plot. What I didn’t know was how much I would actually enjoy this self proclaimed “chick flick.”

Sarah Jessica Parker is just great as Carrie, a role she has played for so many years, and her girlfriends and the rest of the supporting cast. Of course Charlotte’s dream to get pregnant comes true, but that’s the only spoiler I will deliver. After all, you’ll enjoy the drama of the Big and Carrie story line.

Lots of New York, fashion, shoes and other chick things, but it’s also a pretty nifty story of true love and what really matters in life - I mean, other than a big closet.

FOUR AND ONE HALF STARS

BABE WATCH- Oh yes, there are hotties. Kristin Davis as "Charlotte York-Goldenblatt" and Sarah Jessica Parker as "Carrie Bradshaw."

THE STRANGERS
Well, I honestly had a bad feeling about this one before even sitting down with my ice cold bottled water and silencing my cell phone. Even though it is based on a true story that happened in 2005, it still ends up being three people in masks terrorizing a young would-be married couple at their secluded hideaway. Now mind you, I have always maintained that Liv Tyler is a hottie. Not just a five or six hottie, but an Angeline Jolie style “ten” hottie. But watching this movie, where she is either crying, chain smoking or running in terror, kind of ruins the hot girl fantasy. Not only that, but the movie is more depressing than scary. Let’s see, an hour and a half of torture and terrorism, topped off by a brutal double murder. Sorry Liv, this one didn’t do it for me.
