New Gator Country Album Recalls Hatchet's Glory Days

Posted: May 20, 2008

I have just had my head blown completely off.

No foolin.' I am looking up at my headless body from the floor, where my head landed amongst a stack of lame CDs I am putting on eBay. I don't know how my hands continue to type without seeing what I am doing, but it doesn't matter. I have that warm glow I used to get back in the early days of Molly Hatchet. Back when Hatchet was more, I don't know, "Southern rock" and less.... heavy metal.

I just listened to Gator Country's new live CD through a pair of Bose headphones, and man oh man, does it kick. The CD recaptures that old feeling for me. Maybe it's Jimmy Farrar's unique and souful rock vocals, or perhaps Bruce Crump's "tighter than panty hose two sizes small" drum licks. Or maybe it's just the fact that these guys are so damned happy playing together again after so many years.

Yes, drummer Crump and guitarist Steve Holland were in the original Molly Hatchet, followed closely by Jimmy Farrar and Riff West, so this ain't their first swamp rodeo. These guys are the real deal, folks. You need to hear this album.

Check out my review and let me know if you agree. Turn it up!

Keep it Real. Keep it Southern.

Great review Buffalo. I try to support the current Hatchet, but the last two shows I attended sucked bad. I'll be ordering the GAtor cd.
