Delaney Bramlett Sits Down with Gritz: Part One

I have been a fan of Delaney and Bonnie since my early high school days, and of all the hundreds (thousands?) of celebrities I have interviewed thus far, none have gotten me more excited with anticipation than the prospect of my interview with Delaney Bramlett. We had tried many times in the past, but never quite managed to hook up. Then, thanks to MySpace and Delaney’s wife Susan, I was finally going to speak with the rock and roll legend. I was stoked.

I had a great interview that lasted about an hour and a half, and I could not wait to transpose and post it for all to see. Then I hit the playback button. My recording device had gone kaput, and there was no voice on tape other than my own. I knew I hadn’t dreamed the interview. I knew it had been real, but I still suffered a “Lost” moment. Rats.

We would reschedule, but it would have to wait. Delaney had suffered the loss of one of the most important people in his life, his Mother, known to all as “Mamo.” He had to make a road trip to scatter her ashes and to see friends and family. I would wait. Family is much more important than interviews.

Yesterday we reconnected for a long, fun, and informative Swampland conversation. The interview will be presented in two parts, simply due to its size (and hopefully to intice you all into coming back!)
