“Health food makes me sick.” - Calvin Trillin

Since it’s the name of one of my favorite albums, I couldn’t resist stepping into this place as my wife and I walked the downtown streets of Chattanooga.

Three friends founded Sticky Fingers 14 years ago in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. These days, the establishment stands as a private chain of restaurants located in Charleston and Summerville, South Carolina, Wilmington, North Carolina, and Neptune Beach, Florida. Sticky Fingers eateries will soon open in Jacksonville, Florida, and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. On a hot summer day Jen and I visited this Chattanooga branch of operations (the busiest of all six restaurants).

We ordered a couple beers with fried onion rings ($5.99) as an appetizer. When the young waitress appeared, Jen ordered the pork sandwich ($4.99) and I selected the Memphis wet-style ribs ($6.99). For side items we chose dirty rice ($1.59), coleslaw ($1.59), fries ($1.99), and green beans ($1.59).

The rib meat was tender. The food ranks above average, but it’s not distinct. We didn’t go away dissatisfied, but I felt a cold franchise vibration creeping into the place that might stifle any originality. However, you can’t blame some good old boys for working hard and making a success out of their food. Of course, cool merchandise is available.
