The Swampland.com Glossary
Here at Swampland.com, we use some different words and some words a little differently. We thought it would be a good idea to set up a glossary for all of those new to the site.
"The Footprint" - By "Footprint" we mean the area that makes up the Swampland.com region. It includes 15 states, dozens of cities, millions of people, and everything in between.
"The Moss" - This image is one of our symbols. It tells our readers when a link is associated with another article within Swampland.com.
Dispatch - What some may call a "blog" is what we call a Dispatch. We think of our writers as representatives of a community. They send information from their place in the Footprint to the rest of the world.
Discourse - Those in the Footprint has a way with words - spoken, written, and otherwise. This category is our place for books, film, and other uses of words.
Lore - There is history, and there is myth. In the Footprint, these two things often live together. Truths sometimes give way to something that is a little more interesting. As people in the Footprint are known to say - "Don't let the facts get in the way of a good story."
Manner - Like a beat-up old car that can drive down the road with great speed, despite looking to be one step from the junk yard, unique personality combines with effective results invading the finer aspects of the Footprint. From art to style to architecture, these are only a few areas where our perspectives remain our own.
Merchantry - From hard scrabble farming to worldwide industry, the Footprint has produced it all. Our toughest times have often born the fruit of genius.
Wayfaring - This word directly translates to traveling, but we use it broadly. It is our place to talk about place.
Victuals - Pronounced "vittles" like the word that one often sees misspelled in print. This one word means nourishment from food to drink and beyond. The culture of food and drink differs within the Footprint, but the passion for it remains strong in all corners.
